Student mental health is a growing concern everywhere.
A 2020 report by Randstad1 showed that 37% of UK students are experiencing their mental wellbeing becoming worse since starting uni. And that’s before the full impact of COVID-19 has affected these stats.
Over half of students surveyed have considered leaving their course due to mental ill-health, with a majority saying that studies and student lifestyles are both negative factors.
University Mental Health Day, which this year falls on the 4th of March, aims to gather the university community to make mental health a university-wide priority—and create ongoing change to the future of student mental health.
There are over two million students studying in UK universities. It’s a time of unique pressure—people may be living away from home for the first time, they may worry that their studies will define the rest of their lives, and they may find themselves relying on substances to deal with these pressures.
On top of this, we’re currently experiencing an unprecedented pandemic. Students have had most of their social lives pulled from under them, and in some cases are paying thousands of pounds for accommodation they can’t actually use.
At Health Assured, we understand mental health and wellbeing. That’s why we offer an industry-leading student assistance programme—a 24/7, 365 helpline offering advice, guidance, and structured counselling to students who might be feeling themselves spiral.
Our helplines are completely confidential—our qualified counsellors and advisors understand the pressures of student life, and are here to help anyone who needs it. Sometimes, simply talking through your issues with someone can be a great relief.
Are you a university admin, worried about how the last year has affected your students? We’re here to help. Call us today to discuss the benefits of a student assistance programme—we can help ease some of the issues faced.
