14 April 2015

National Gardening Week 2015 will be taking place 13-19 April and was launched four years ago by the Royal Horticultural Society (HRS) and since then has grown into the country’s biggest celebration of gardening.

During the week Events and activities are being run up and down the country. From beginner’s workshops to guided walks, face painting to garden parties. Whether you are green fingered or would like to find out more about looking after your flower bed there will be something you could try this week. Even if you don’t make it to one of the big organised events this week you could get involved at home. Try:

  • Wild flower growing
  • Creating a sensory garden
  • Planting some bee friendly flowers
  • Work with some willow to produce art in your garden
  • Start visiting an allotment and grow your own fruit and veg
  • Build a pond
  • Introduce birds into your garden with a feeder
  • Plant a tree

There won’t just be benefits to your garden either; being outside has lots of positives for you and your health. You’ll get fresh air and Vitamin D from the sun and enjoyment out of the achievement of planting and growing your own beautiful garden.  Depending on how strenuous your planting is, it will also help to keep you fit too.
