What is Whistleblowing?


Whistleblowing (also known as protected disclosure) is when an employee reports workplace wrongdoing that they believe is in the public interest. This can include:

  • Criminal activity such as theft or fraud

  • Unsafe, unethical or discriminatory behaviour

  • Bullying, harassment, racism, sexism, or homophobia

  • Unfair treatment or breaches of company policy

Reports can be made through an authorised internal channel or via an external independent service such as HA Wisdom Wellbeing's Whistleblowing service. A structured whistleblowing policy helps organisations act quickly, fairly, and in line with legislation.
