Prefer an online course?

Health Assured offers the same course with the full MHFA certification. Delegates must complete a pre-course online to participate and you will need a laptop or device with video, a good internet connection, and a workstation.

This is a two-day course which can hold up to 16 participants at a time.

MHFA refresher course

Health Assured offers a refresher course to review your skills, update your knowledge of mental health support, and practice the application of the MHFA action plan.

MHFA England recommends that the qualified MHFAider and Champions attend a refresher course every three years. This is to keep mental health support knowledge fresh and maintain confidence when supporting others through mental health problems. This will make sure all candidates are better equipped to deal with difficult situations that may arise in the workplace.

The course needs a minimum of eight and a maximum of 25 delegates to attend.

Currently, mental health first aid is not a legal requirement in the workplace. However, employers have a legal obligation under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 to protect and ensure the physical and mental health of their team, both of which can impact the other.

Mental health first aid training provides the skills necessary to effectively and appropriately respond to and manage cases of employees struggling with mental health in work. Having a qualified mental health first aider in work can minimise absenteeism caused by work-related stress and anxiety and decrease the chances of a critical incident.

To gain a mental health first aid certification, you must take part in a mental health first aid training course. Cost typically ranges from £100 to £300 per person. This training will provide a wealth of knowledge on how to address sensitive topics with people who are struggling with ill mental health. Those who attend the training will also receive a mental health first aid manual and workbook to use as a reference during and after your certification.

MHFA adult educational courses take place over two days, designed and carried out by a recognised and accredited MHFA educator.

Mental health first aid trainers provided by Health Assured use accredited Mental Health First Aid England (MHFAE) Adult courses. The content of this programme is recognised and used in over 20 different countries.

Mental health first aid certificates do not expire once certified. However, those who have participated are encouraged to retrain and retake the certification every two years to stay up to date with any new research and to refresh their skills.
