Health Assured becomes a stonewall diversity champion and commits to LGBT inclusion
- Health Assured joins LGBT group Stonewall’s Diversity Champions programme
- Stonewall works with over 700 organisations in the private, public and third sector
Health Assured pledged its support to diversity and inclusion and has become a member of the Diversity Champions programme, run by lesbian, gay, bi and trans equality charity Stonewall.
From our research we know that almost 70 per cent of LGBT people who are out at work feel more supported by their managers, compared to those who aren’t.
By joining the Stonewall Diversity Champion programme, Health Assured is leading the pack in creating a happier and more inclusive workforce.
As part of the programme, Health Assured will work closely with James Haq-Myles its assigned Account Manager from Stonewall’s Membership Programmes team to ensure that policies and practices can be improved to create an organisation that is inclusive of all staff.
Examples of areas that this could include are: creating and maintaining an LGBT network group, improving monitoring of staff’s sexual orientation and gender identity and introducing staff policies that ensure that all employees are aware of the specific issues that might affect lesbian, gay, bi and trans colleagues e.g. healthcare or legal provisions in countries they might travel to for overseas work.
Health Assured is proud to be the first EAP provider to become a Stonewall Diversity Champion and is committed to creating a more inclusive workplace using the Workplace Equality Index (WEI) involving our staff in this process.
As part of the continued development of our organisation, striving to exceed our core values (Value, Integrity, Excellence and Respect) we recognise that the inclusivity and equality of both our employees and our client’s employees is paramount.
We want to work alongside Stonewall to create develop a culture of caring and understanding, promoting a healthy mental and physical wellbeing. Our relationship with Stonewall will further our ambition to go beyond removing discrimination from the workplace to creating a truly inclusive environment for all.
Health Assured is firmly committed to providing a workplace that supports diversity. Our membership of Stonewall’s programme demonstrates our intentions to respect, welcome and support LGBT professionals in our business.
We are now looking forward to contributing to Stonewall’s Workplace Equality Index which will enable us to measure our extensive and ongoing efforts to create an inclusive workplace. Testing us against the best and challenging ourselves to foster a working environment that allows people to feel at ease, be themselves and reach their full potential.
James Haq-Myles said: ‘We are delighted to welcome Health Assured into Stonewall’s Diversity Champion programme and I look forward to personally working alongside its team to ensure it becomes an inclusive place for all lesbian, gay, bi and trans staff.
‘We know that people perform better when they can be themselves and that a diverse team produces a more creative and productive workplace environment. Meaning that fostering an LGBT inclusive working culture will assist organisations in attracting and retaining key talent.’
‘We hope that this influences other organisations within the sector to sign up to the programme and learn how they can make their organisations a better place to work’.
Stonewall is Britain’s leading charity for lesbian, gay, bi and trans equality, working to create a world where every single person can be accepted without exception.
